This page of the site describes what one might expect while working with Miller's Imagery.   The "expectation areas" covered are personal experience or expertise, work environment, working relationship and cost of services.  Typical roles and responsibilities of the service provider and the client are also provided with respect to collecting and inventorying information for  a project.

Experience and Expertise

- Past working career:  Senior manager with Ontario Power Generation in the areas of nuclear electrical production and corporate risk management.   Areas of responsibility were comptrollership, strategic and operational planning, performance reporting, information systems, process improvements, administrative support and process auditing and risk management assessments at both plant and head office  locations.

Expertise Relevant to Imagery Services:  Experienced with information systems technology and it's use in collecting and organizing textual,  photographic and video information into an organized, visually attractive and informative format.   Most important skill is the ability to use information  from many sources to create a "strategic and process management" interpretation and presentation.

Work Environment

Typically, work is conducted in a home environment in the Toronto area or at the cottage in Wollaston Township.  The equipment used are personal computers, a scanner, printers, a digital camera and video camera and a high definition video camcorder.   Meetings with clients can be conducted in the Toronto area, at the cottage or at the client's home or business location.  For web site work we offer two unique features:

Remote On-line Client Review and Access:  All internet web site development is set up for remote on-line client viewing of a draft web site located on a web server  in the US.  This allows continuous and user- friendly access to web site development status and facilitates communications relative to change control and project cost reporting.

Remote On-line Client Web Site Maintenance Control:  Miller's Imagery can maintain a client's web site under the terms of a maintenance contract.  The client has an option to use specialized software to make changes and revisions to their site directly from their PC or they can use Miller's Imagery for all revisions and updates after a site goes into service.

Working Relationship

It is usually the case for web site design and creation, that the client provides all necessary information and imagery for a project and the service provider (Miller's Imagery) puts this information into a format agreed to with the client.   This process may vary somewhat depending on the needs of the client.  For example, an Artist needs a web site but does not have a complete inventory of art work (pictures, names, sizes etc) and needs more assistance than just the design and creation of a web site.  Another example is an organizations is in a startup mode and needs a web site to market and sell it's products and services. In this case, the organization might want the service provider to take on some of the work of creating required information including photographs and video products.  The roles and responsibilities of the client and of Miller's imagery will be defined in an approved Project Terms of Reference.  This terms of reference document will contain details about the background, the scope of work to be done, hours required and cost.

For work on simpler projects such as CDs and DVDs of photographs or videos,  a more informal approach to organizing the work is more likely the case.

Benchmarking Web Site Costs

A number of  "requests for quotations" (using  a generic Project Terms of Reference - 20 hours of work)* were sent out to website designers of very attractive and efficient websites.  The responses received indicated a  cost range for a "medium" complexity web site (five to six pages - 20 hours of work) is $2500 to $5000.  Typical hourly rates were $75 -125 per hour.

Based on this cost benchmarking exercise,  the typical time required to set up a website of medium complexity is 10 to 20 hours at a cost in the range of $800 to $ 2500.  The cost for a relatively simple website (three to five web pages and five to ten hours of work)  is $300 to 500.
