1.0 Background
XYZ
organization is in the process of starting up an organization and needs
an internet web site. Work progress to date has been the registration
of two internet domain names:
www.xyz.ca
www.xyz.com
A
web host server has been selected, web space purchased and the site
has been set up with a startup information web page. The “.ca”
domain has been established as a backup measure and will be set up to
take the web user to the main web site.
2.0 Project Description
The
next step in the web site creation process is the design, development
and launch of the site. The steps involved in this work consist
of: determining the client’s information needs and content for the site;
scoping out the desired “look” and size of the site; and, finally, developing
and programming of the complete package.
3.0 Project
Plan
a) Understand
client’s business goals, objectives and key deliverables
1 hour
b) Determine
client’s needs for web site content and structure
2 hours
c) Design
and develop the overall site 10 hours
d) Design
reviews, revisions and final approval by client 3 hours
e) Publish
the web site on the web host server 4 hour
Total
time required
20 hours
The
time required to create a web site varies with needs. For example,
the time may be less for the conversion of an existing site to a new
and updated site (10 to 15 hours). The time may be more for many
web pages, web pages with many client created graphics or for rework
on site content because of changing source or reference material.
The time may also increase because the client has the need for content
and images not available and requiring assistance from Miller's
Imagery.
The
web site will consist of five to six web pages with a mixture of text
and graphics with necessary links to web pages and other key information
about the organization, its services and programs. The site layout,
background and use of imaginative imagery will “attract the attention
of first time visitors and encourage repeat visits”. The site
will include a visitor or hit count indicator and other reports will
provide supporting statistics on site access.
The
time shown above in the Project Plan is typical of that required for
a five to six page site. A site requiring more pages would typically
require more project hours and cost.
5.0 Project Cost
In
order to complete the above project work, the cost will be based on
an hourly rate of 100 $ per hour, which is about what one would expect from other service providers. So project cost for the 20 hours of work above would be $2000.
For any ongoing site revisions and maintenance, after the
site is officially approved and published, the cost will be 100 $ per
hour.
